Kobe Bryant Blog Day

The only question to ask is not why, but why now?

Kobe Bean Bryant already has millions of dollars, 22 50-point games, 12 seasons of service in the league, 10 All-Star appearances, three rings, two scoring titles, two best-selling jerseys and a signature sneaker from two different shoe companies. (I’ll have to turn that last sentence into a Kobe By the Numbers piece as the day wears on.) What can a legion of bloggers led by the Pied Pipers over at Hardwood Paroxysm write about Bryant that’d be worth writing at this point? What good are a couple more thousand words devoted to KB24 flooding the Internet all at the same time?

The 21st Century has replaced the clichéd opening of “If you look up (blank) in the dictionary it's defined as …” with “If you Google (blank) you get X amount of results…” While it’s certainly a cliché, it illustrates a point: If you Google “Kobe Bryant” you get 4,280,000 results in a mere 0.11 seconds. Four million. That's more results than there are people in the city of Los Angeles, where Kobe calls home. So again, with Bryant already having more Web fodder about him than just about anybody outside of Britney Spears, why is it now that we take a break from blogging about facial hair bets and YouTube videos and trade scenarios to add more to the dense pile of Kobe clutter that’s already out there?

Because today is about love.

Kobe doesn’t get much of it. Those of us who support him spend more time arguing against Kobe haters than just sitting back and enjoying him for the player he is.

I’m tired of that.

Yeah, I know Kobe is a polarizing figure. I get why he’s not everybody’s cup of tea. He complains about every call, he is a “volume” scorer, he would have naked fingers if it wasn’t for Shaq, he’s nothing compared to LeBron, he’s even less of a player compared to Michael, and on and on and on.

Well, today, for 24 hours at least, it stops.

Today we heap him with enough love to write the lyrics of a Beatles song or base the plot around for a Hugh Grant movie.

Today his arrogance can only be seen as confidence. Today he’s not obsessed with basketball, he’s dedicated to his craft. Today the impossible shots he makes are works of athletic art, not questionable decisions. Today he’s an expert motivator, not a critical teammate.

Today we celebrate the mini ‘fro, the alley-oop to Shaq against Portland, the through-the-legs Slam Dunk Contest clincher, the 81, the 50-point streak, the OT forcer and game winner in the same game against Phoenix, the All-Star game MVPs, the food poisoning in Sacto, the Oakleys on his head at his press conference announcing his decision to go from preps to pros, the prom with Brandy, the slam against the Wizards at UNLV, the posterizing of Dwight and Yao …

It’s all part of the story. It’s all part of the love.

The picture accompanying this post pretty much sums up how I think about Kobe: The Troubled Genius. The brash young talent feeling like the weight of the world is on his shoulders because he knows what he’s blessed with, and he doesn’t want to short change those blessings.

It’s a responsibility that many of his peers ignore. It’s hard to stay hungry enough to put in that extra set of 5 a.m. wind sprints when you have a personal chef that will cook you anything your heart desires when you’re actually hungry.

But as much as Kobe stays accountable for doing his talents service with that insane work ethic of his, his personal drive actually ends up helping out the whole NBA.

The saying goes that a team is only as good as its strongest link, well a league is only as good as the standard of competition set by its strongest link. By just being who he is, Kobe gives other players a glimpse of how good they can by if the adopt the same devotion to the game as Kobe.

With his commitment the playing the game as my motivation, I’ll try to match the same single-minded focus on today, March 11, 2008, a.k.a. Kobe Bryant Blog Day.

The goal is 24 posts in 24 hours to honor KB24. That doesn’t necessarily mean my fingers won’t stop typing for 1,440 minutes. Some hours you’ll get three posts, some you’ll get two, some you’ll get none. There’ll be video. There’ll be stats. There’ll be photos. There’ll be prose. I’ve even been known to write song lyrics from time to time.

This is post No. 1. An intro, certainly, but also an answer. Why take today to blog about Kobe when seemingly everything worth saying about him has been said before? Because we love him.

And why do we love him?

Well, today we get to be like the kids in the old Apple Jacks commercials:

We just do, OK?

    Godfather Quotes and Lines

"A man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man."

"So the next day, my father went to see him; only this time with Luca Brasi. An' within an hour, he signed a release, for a certified check for $1000. [Kay: "How'd he do that?"] My father made him an offer he couldn't refuse. [Kay: "What was that?"] Luca Brasi held a gun to his head and my father assured him that either his brains, or his signature, would be on the contract. That's a true story. That's my family, Kay, it's not me."

"No Sicilian can refuse any request on his daughter's wedding day."

"Today I settled all Family business, so don't tell me you're innocent, Carlo."

"Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."

"Fredo, you're my older brother, and I love you. But don't ever take sides with anyone against the family again. Ever."

"I never wanted this for you. I work my whole life--I don't apologize--to take care of my family, and I refused to be a fool, dancing on the string held by all those bigshots. I don't apologize--that's my life--but I thought that, that when it was your time, that you would be the one to hold the string. Senator Corleone; Governor Corleone. [Michael: Another pezzonovante] Well, this wasn't enough time, Michael. It wasn't enough time. [Michael: We'll get there, pop. We'll get there.]"

"My father taught me many things ... keep your friends close, but your enemies closer."

"Fredo, you're nothing to me now; not a brother, not a friend. I don't want to know you, or what you do."

"If anything in this life is certain; If history has taught us anything, it's that you can kill anyone."

"I can handle things, I'm smart, not like everybody says. Not dumb, I'm smart, and I want respect!"

"Whatcha go to college to get stupid? You're really stupid!"

"We're all part of the same hypocrisy, Senator. But never think it applies to my family."

"I don't want anything to happen to him while my mother's alive."

"When Pop had troubles, did he ever think that maybe by trying to be strong, and trying to protect his family, that he could lose it instead?"

"[I will never work for you. I have bad memories.] I'll always be your son, but I will never have anything to do with your business."

"I betrayed my wife. I betrayed myself. I killed men and I ordered men to be killed. Ah, it's useless... I killed -- I ordered the death of my brother. He injured me. I killed my mother's son. I killed my father's son."

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. [Our true enemy has not yet shown his face.]"

"I would burn in Hell to keep you safe."

"Times change. These days, we learn from the philanthropists like the Rockefellers. First you rob everybody, then you give to the poor."

"When they come, they'll come at what you love."

"All my life I kept trying to go up in society. Where everything higher up was legal. But the higher I go, the crookeder it becomes. Where the hell does it end?"

"You know Michael, now that you're so respectable, I think you're more dangerous than you ever were. In fact, I prefer you when you were just a common Mafia hood."

"Never hate your enemies -- it effects your judgement."

"Politics and crime -- they're the same thing."

"I swear on the lives of my children -- give me a chance to redeem myself, and I will sin no more."

"Nephew, from this moment forward, call yourself Vincent Corleone."

    Sparks Fly

Every new year I try to take Fireworks pictures but I took horrible shots. But this are simple tips that you and I should do to take good firework snaps.

    1. ISO - Use the lowest ISO possible (100 - 200)

    2. Aperture - for ISO 100 ( f8 - f16 ), for ISO 200 (f11 - f22) choose the aperture by testing each setting...

3.Shutter speed - There are no specific speed to use... after you have select any aperture setting, test the shutter speed starting from 5 seconds to 10 seconds. Adjust it accordingly. Use BULB setting if needed...

4.Put your camera on continuous shooting mode...

5.Put your camera on manual focus and focus to any subject near the fireworks..

6.Use remote release to trigger the shutter to reduce camera shake...

7.Keep taking pictures until the fireworks end

    8.Last but not least... Enjoy!!!...

    Throwback

They have a lot of tradition between them, and they brought back one blast from the past on Sunday that some might argue could have remained in the time capsule.Playing against the Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers wore throwback jerseys featuring vintage 1970s short shorts. Smiles could be seen from many courtside fans as Kobe Bryant and the Lakers took the court. Laughing former Laker Rick Fox snapped a couple of pictures.

Forward Trevor Ariza even wore knee pads a la Magic Johnson. But the Lakers did find their fashion sense at halftime, coming out of the break in regular baggy shorts. The Lakers couldn't help coach Phil Jackson make some history. The 110-91 loss kept him in a tie with Red Auerbach for seventh place on the career wins list.Jackson and the Lakers were going for their season-high fifth straight victory, but the Celtics upped their win streak to six games.Jackson earned his 938th win as a head coach on Friday night, when the Lakers (19-11) beat Utah 123-109. He matched the career total of Auerbach, who recorded his last 795 wins with the Celtics.

    Words of Wisdom from Inday

    bahay, magluto, maglaba, magplantsa, mamalengke,
at magbantay ng mga bata. Kaya mo ba ang lahat ng
    ito?

Inday: I believe that my trained skills and
expertise in management with the use of standard
tools, and my discipline and experience will
contribute significantly to the value of the
work that you want, my creativity, productivity
and work-efficiency and the high quality of
outcomes I can offer will boost the work
    progress.

    Amo: [nosebleed]

Nakaraan ang dalawang araw, umuwi ang amo,
    nakitang me bukol si junior.

Amo: Bakit me bukol si junior?

    Inday: Compromising safety with useless
    aesthetics, the not-so-well engineered
architectural design of our kitchen lavatory
affected the boy's cranium with a slight boil at
the left temple near the auditory organ.

    Amo: [nosebleed ulit]

    Kinagabihan, habang naghahapunan.

    Amo: Bakit maalat ang ulam?

Inday: The consistency was fine. But you see, it
seems that the increased amount of sodium
chloride (NaCl) affected the taste drastically
and those actions are irreversible. I do
    apologize.

    Amo: [nosebleed na naman]

Donya: Bakit tuwing paguwi ko, nadadatnan kitang
    nanunuod ng tv?!

Inday: Because I don't want you to see me doing
    absolutely nothing.

    Donya: [hinimatay]

Kinabukasan, sinamahan ni Inday si junior sa
principal's office dahil di makapunta ang amo at
    donya.

Principal: Sinuntok ni junior ang kanyang
    kaklase.

Inday: It's absurd! It was never a fact that he
will inflict a fight. I can only imagine how you
handle schizophrenic kids on this educational
institution. Revise your policies because they
    suck!

    Principal: [nag resign]

    bahay?!

Inday: A change in the weather patterns might
have occurred wrecking havoc to the
surroundings. The way the debris are scattered
indicates that the gust of wind was going
northeast causing damage to the path it was
    heading for.

    Amo: [nosebleed ulit]

    junior.

Inday: Stop your raucous behavior. It is bound
to result in property damages and if that
happens there will be corresponding punishment to
    be inflicted upon you!

Junior: [takbo sa CR, punasan ang nagdudugong
    ilong]

    Junior: Bakit kaya sya umalis?

Inday: Sometimes, people choose to leave not
because of selfish reasons but because they just
know that things will get worse if they'll stay.
Leaving can be a tough act, and it's harder when
people can't understand you for doing so.

Junior: [tuloy ang pagdugo ng ilong]

Nung gabing yon, me nag text ke Inday. Si Dodong,
ang driver ng kapitbahay, gusto maki pag
    text-mate.

Inday: To forestall further hopes of
acquaintance, my unfathomable statement to the
denial of your request - Petition denied.

Di nagla-on, dahil sa tyaga ni Dodong, nagging
syota nya rin si Inday. Pero di tumagal ang
kanilang relasyon, at nakipag-break si Inday ke
    Dodong.

Inday: The statute restricts me to love you but
you have the provocations. The way you smile is
the proximate cause why I love you. We have some
rules to think of. We have no vested rights to
love each other because the upper household
    dismissed my petition!"

Dodong: Perhaps you are mistaken, what you seem
to contrive as any affections for you are
somewhat half-hearted. I was merely attempting
to expand my network of interests by involving
you in my daily recreation. Heretofor, you can
expect an end to any verbal articulation from
    myself"

Me dumaan na mamang basurero, at narinig ang
    usapan ni Inday at Dodong.

Basurero (sabi ke Inday): Be careful in letting
go of the things you thought are just nothing
because maybe someday you'll realize that the one
you gave away is the very thing you've been
    wishing for to stay.

    Amo: [nagpakamatay]

    Behind the Lenses

Last Saturday and yesterday nag kodakan kami sa Aguinaldo’s shrine sa kawit para sa project o entry ni Aj sa art perton contest nga ba un?. Bali ang theme ng photo nya eh freedom na dapat my 50 years or more na monument or place , basta , kaya naisipan nya siguro na dun mag-shoot. .

Re-Shoot daw, waah. Baket?? Hehe.

Medyo eto ung ibang kinalabasan nung shoot.

    The Good Die Young

DETROIT, April 11 (AP) — Proof, a member of the rap group D12 and a close friend of Eminem, was shot to death early Tuesday at a nightclub along Eight Mile Road here, a publicist for his record label said.
"Memorial service arrangements are still being made, and his friends and family would appreciate privacy during this difficult time," Dennis Dennehy, a publicist for Interscope Records, said in a statement.
Proof, 32, whose real name was Deshaun Holton, was the best man at Eminem's wedding in January and often appeared alongside him at concerts and public appearances. He also appeared in the film "8 Mile."
An argument at the nightclub led to gunshots, said a Detroit police spokesman, James Tate.

Wende Berry, a spokeswoman for St. John Health System, said Proof was dead on arrival at St. John Conner Creek, an outpatient treatment site. She confirmed that he had a gunshot wound.
    The World is Yours !

Every one of us has a favorite movie, so i guest i share mine. Scarface (1983) is one of the best bad ass crime movies of all time. Story of Tony Montana a political refugee from cuba who makes his way to U.S. and the rest is History. These are my favorite quotes from the movie.

"Why don't you try stickin' jou head up jour ass -- see if it fits" (Tony to Hector)

"I neva fucked anybody over in my life, who didn't have it comin' to 'im, you got that? All I have in this world is my balls, and my word, and I don't break 'em for no one, jou understand?" (Tony to Sosa).

"Fuck Gaspar Gomez, and fuck the fuckin' Diaz brothers! Fuck'em all! I bury those cock-a-roaches!" (Tony to Frank)

"Maybe you can handle yourself one of them First Class tickets to the resurrection" / "Fuckin' punk! Son of a bitch!" / "So long, Mel; Have a good trip" / "Fuck you!" (Tony shooting Mel)

"Can't you stop saying 'fuck' all the time?" (Elvira)

"I'm Tony Montana! You fuck wit me, you fuckin' wit da best!"

"Say 'ello to my little friend!"

How many times is the word fuck said in Scarface?

Okay, I needed a definitive answer and I finally got around to it. No where on the www could I find a total I trusted. One site said 206, but I counted 218 I counted the other curses, too, with closed-captioning on. (I counted more than was in the subtitles). I don't know about the Blink 182 theory, that they got "182" fuck's from the film, but someone suggested that maybe it was the number of times Tony himself said it rather than everyone combined. Or maybe they took 218 and moved the 2 to the end to make 182??

    218 "fucks" in a 170 minute movie!

    Here's the breakdown:

    Fuck: 218 (Fucking, 101; Fuck, 99; Fucked, 12; Fucker, 2; Motherfucker, 4)

    Shit: 19
    Bullshit: 4

    Cocksucker: 7

    Ass: 9
    Asshole: 8

    Son of a bitch: 5
    Bitch: 1

    Pussy: 4

    Prick: 2

    Bastard: 1

    That's 278 total curses -- one every 36 seconds!
